One Roll, One Day

January 2020

New year, new project. I am not happy with the results of this particular roll of film but I am glad I picked up my camera and shot a roll of film. Every January, I find myself in the same unmotivated photo slump and I have to really force myself to take on a new project. I shot this roll on a day that the schools had a two hour delay and I was giving a photography final to the high school students I teach. Nothing exciting, just a glimpse into the average day.

I am hoping that by posting this roll, I will be reminded that sometimes the victory is just in picking up the camera and the sense of accomplishment that comes with that small step.

  1. I FEEL THESE WORDS SO HARD! I have been in a sluuuuump, but the victory is in picking up the camera! It’s like running, I grow the most when I go on the runs that feel like torture. I am so excited to keep on keeping on with you!

  2. I think these are great! They tell the story of your day and what a fun record to have. I might have to choose a day when I go to work next, instead of shooting on the weekend. You’ve inspired me.

  3. I hear you, every January, I get in a slump. I think it’s the post holiday slump. And then I get super motivated and I plan all of these projects, most of them I never complete. This year, I’m determined to be flexible and just try. Just show up, pick up the camera, and shoot something. Eventually it will get easier to pull ourselves out of it. I do love these photos, I always love your portraits
